Need "Forbidden" Page

I am a technical writer who is now moving more into web development. Like many who are primarily self-taught, my skills are spotty. I’ve learned what I’ve needed to as the challenged arose. So, some of my skills are fairly sophisticated, yet some of my questions will sound like I can barely mange to turn on a computer!

The site I'm currently working on > http://althea.cs.umass.edu/ckc/01ckcindex.html < needs a "forbidden" page at http://althea.cs.umass.edu/ckc/ - as it stands, there is a file list (ugly )

This is something I haven't done before. Could someone tell me how (preferably a custom one but the usual will do) or point me to a tutorial?

The site looks good, not bad for a "self-taught"

Anyway, for your problem, there are two ways for a fix:

1. Save this:

Options -Indexes


...as ".htaccess" and place it on /ckc/ folder.

2. Secondly, just create an "index.html" and upload it on /ckc/ folder and your problem should be gone.

Okay - here is the part that is going to prove my "self taught" status.

I don't know where to find the Options -Indexes part - I've looked thought the FTP portal, and don't see it. Do I need some kind of higher access to the server?

You need not to find it.

You will create it.

Open notepad (or your favorite editor)

Key in Options -Indexex

...and save it as .htaccess

Then upload it on /ckc/ folder.

Lastly, have some beer
