background eraser tool is not erasing the color I want

I'm using the background eraser tool in photoshop.

How can I select the color of the background ?
It just takes the wrong color and it doesn't erase as I want.

hi,
now we don't know kind of image you have... many times that is very helpful to see...

but generally... when using the background eraser, set my settings, there at the top, to discontiquos, tolerance medium value, and sampling to once ..... these settings can be different depending on the background maybe it solid color or various shades of the same color.. but you may need to experiment a little....
