Root servers

Postby leonard on Thu Dec 20, 2007 2:43 pm

Has anyone got good experiences with a specific root server?

Here are the servers and hosters I have tried out so far:
    - virtual root server at https://www.server4you.de. (20€/month)
    My recommendation: DONT make a contract with server4you. The service is not good and if you want to quit your contract, you cannot do that online! In addition you need to do cancel the contract 3 months in advance, else the contract is renewed for a year (that happened to me :evil:)

    - dedicated root server at http://www.strato.de/server/power/index.html (25€/month -> I see it's 22€ at the moment)
    Probably one of the cheapest dedicated servers on the market. But ftp-backup is not included (additional 5€).
    My recommendation: Good value for what you get. Because it is a dedicated server, the performance is very constant. (although a 20€ virtual server is more performant when your "neighbours" are not busy). At Strato you cannot cancel your contract online and your reverse-dns-lookup has to be a strato-hosted domain :-(.

    - virtual root server at http://www.hosteurope.de/ (20€/month)
    My recommendation: hosteurope is my favorite server-hoster so far. The service is good, you can quit your contract online within one month, you can have any domain as reverse-dns-lookup and you can have as many servers on your user-account as you want. Last but not least, it has got a new distribution of Debian (4.0 etch) available :-).

If you have any other recommendations I'm happy to get the info.

Cheers!

NearlyFreeSpeech is very great. The cheapest...no monthly plan it's pay as you go..I'm happy with them.
