No box appears when I hover cursor over tools, menus etc.

Im a complete noob to PS and I really can't get around without seeing the toolnames, options etc that should appear when I hover my cursor over an item. There is probably a very easy solution to this, like clicking two buttons. Help please =)

Try going to window>tools make sure there is a tick on tools.

Oh, that isn't my prob. I SEE everything, but I don't see their NAMES when I hover my cursor over them.

Try going to Edit>preferences> Interface>Show tool tips.

Not sure if this will work, give it a go.

It was already checked Thanks for trying thö'. Is there a "reset all settings" or something that can fix it?

That should have worked.

You could try window>workspace>essentials default.

If not you could try and reinstall photoshop.

Already tried the essentials default. I'll try reinstalling. Thought it (hiding toolnames etc) might be something that "pros" do when they know it all by heart and don't need them anymore. I just noticed that I get the box with the name/action when I hover over the topmost icons (like zoom, hand tool, rotate etc) that are on the same line as file, edit etc.

Sorry, I do not know what your problem is, I would have thought the SHOW TOOL TIPS would have worked.

There probably is some other way, though I personally do not know how to amend your problem, sorry.

And it's back... I saw some other guy reporting the same problem: the tooltips disappear after some time (there wasn't any reply there tho). Really annoying >.<
