How to create a caricature??

Postby Danielc on Mon Sep 21, 2009 1:19 pm

Hi,

I'm new to this site so hello all.

My question is how would I go about turning an image into a caricature in photoshop CS4?

Any help and advice would be great.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm thinking more of a big head small body caricature?

that's even easier,just select the head>copy it>paste it>(now you have a new layer) >transform size>>>Bingo!

That works a treat, just a few more questions...

How would you say they got the colour effects on th skin? and what would you say is the best selection tool for the job for selecting the head and keeping the hair detail? The extract filter, quick selection tool etc...?

hi,
based on your last statement... large head small body... that fairly simple... just select the head and put it on a seperate layer and then use your transform tool to enlarge it the way you want.....

now to go along with that.... yhou may want, for a quick and dirty, use the artistic filters... there 3 or 4 , like poster edges, cutouts or the dry brush ..you get get iinteresting results......

and if y our going for a true caracature..... where you want to enphasize elements of the face maybe use the liquidfy tool to adjust the ears or nose or eyes or forhead or chin, etc...
this tutorial give you some ideas...

That all depends on the image, there are so many ways of doing it, the best way to tell you is to show us what it is your trying to cut

I take portrait photos of children but I use a grey backdrop. I would like to cut them out of the grey to put onto a white background.

hi,
I think idad would like to see a representitive sample image of what your needing.. like he mentioned there many ways to select a object .. and each image a different meathod.... and also depends on how much contrast there is between the objeckt and background...

could you provide a link to a image that represent the issue?

myself a lot of time i use channel masking technique.... now there a lot of tutorials on the variations of this technique but russle brown has a excellent video.... go this this link toward the bottom ...
http://russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html

but it hard to say if that the best and/or the quickest meathod for you image...
