logo image quality help

Postby squeezywheezy on Mon Oct 05, 2009 1:52 pm

Hi

Im really new to photoshop and have designed a logo for my business. However when i try to upload it to make a business card the image quality is terrible. i made the image on a 300dpi canvas. I am using some photoshop brushes that I downloaded, do youthink that could be the issue? also the icon I used is an image that I had made and then transformed to be smaller.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Louise

the resolution on that is only at 72 what is it as .tif? also have you anti aliased your effects. I know if I don't that tends to distort a bit

hi,
I don't have good solution, primarily posting because I am interested the replies you get
but a few observations and comments .. since I have had the same issue with photoshop when it come to small text....

1. first your brushes is not the cause..... so you don't have to worry about that..
2. your graphics (the fairy and curly cues) on the card they are definitlly blurry... generally what i do is , in there own file, when i get it nice and sharp i save them as transparent GIF ...!!
3. now my opinion, you don'e want to saveyour master in jpg unless you have to..when exporting use png, tif, gif, or even bmp !!!!! ifor jpg if the compression to high , jpg will will start to make things look blurry or jaggy. if you must use jpg.. either go with a quality setting of about 85-90 % or a compression setting of about 70-80% ..
4. if your going to reduce the size of your image i suggest using either bicubic sharper or bicubic smoother.... and maybe do it in 10 or 20% steps reducing the size of the image... huge jumps in reduction you'll lose quality because the way pixals are removed..
5. you might want to look at this link.. it addresses some of thing i have.. now they're talking about logo but your business card that all it is... the issues are the same...
http://foliovision.com/2009/01/29/resiz ... photoshop/

now you might want to look at using a vector based program... they generally do much better... a lot of people suggest illustrator.. but that cost money (i am cheap..lol) there some free one out there.....check out download.com ...

now for me for business cards and various kinds of lables.. i use a different kind of program... and it hand handle thing like text on buisness cards and such a lot better than photoshop ... even zooming in at 600% the text and everything is still nice and sharp!! where as with photoshop at 300% i can easily see that there's a shading on the edges of the text (that why it appears blurry and jaggy)
note: a interesting note... if i do make my text in the other program and then export as a gif or png and then bring that into my photshop the text is fine....as long as i don't reduce the size too much ... lol...

note: gif and png will allow you to have a transparent background... with png if you have transparent effect, png will preserve that where gif won't ... for gif to have a simi transparent effect you have to go thru a couple of hoops...

Well i think i did enough talking...lol.... i be interested what other replies yo get on this subject matter.... i figure there something i am overlooking but we'll see..

hi squeezy,
something i Had forgtten about..... and i remembered when i was experimenting with your issue....

this doesn't always work but if your text is large enough.....

now one of the issues i have notice and i mentioned it is that when you type in the text you'll see that , when yo zoom in, some of the edges are shaded...!!

what i have done is after i have rasterize the text i'll go in with my magic wand, setting my tolorance setting to near zero, select all the transparent areas and then do a inverse of the selection and then use my paint brush to really darken all those ighter shades of balck..

now with that in many cases i'll get results where the small text is mostly nice a and sharp....

it not a perfect solution but one...
