hi
your getting there....
now remember on the curve and black and white layer
and setting in the tutorial
for him they worked out... but for you... that just a good
base line numbers to start from... you'll be modifying the
numbers a little to get the results you want....to match his
results..!

Thanks many times over

It appears i have the technical aspects pretty well down pat

Now the rest is up to me as an individual , artistic eye and

expression

In all the frustration of trying to figure this one out

i forgot what ideas this picture inspired for another work

i wanted to do LOL After all i dont just want to copy others work

i want to learn from them 2 create my own

Oh well maybe some rest will jog my memory :)

im working on another pic here , sotr of a halloween theme

it involves a character beaten up if u will , stitched and bleeding

rotting skin ....BooooooooooooooBoooooooooooo

id like to tap your experience some more in a few days as i

progress on this task , i hope i may ?

It involves textures/layers , blending a lower layer ( in this case a piece of raw meat )

onto upper layer ( characters skin ) Blablabla

Anyhow thanks so much for your patience and knowledge

Theres still so much more to learn , im still open to more advice on this

thread as well

Cheers

hi,

great you got the tutorial down... yes you can tap me more if you want and I'll
help as much as i can....
note: by helping this is another meathod i use to learn....
just remember
I am a novice like you but at the moment al ittle more experience but
but i think soon you be much better.. it all depends on how much time
you invest in photoshop... !!! for me photoshop is just one item i get involved in
there many other things i do that uses up my time and distracts me..lol.
like, making video's,
anaimated ecards, digitizing my lp's and cassetts, etc etc...lol ...

holloween... that reminds me i got a couple animate ecards to work on...smile
i just recently pickup some nice old looking mansions and castles ... what i do is
is I first a little photoshop editing give the structur a hunting look maybe add
a couple of dead trees.... and after that then i bring it into my ecard program
add the the animated clips and text and music ... voila.. anice ecard i can
send out to my friends...!! that one way i use photoshop in conjuction with
other things i do ... and video's, photoshop come into play either when making
opening scene or cleaning up family pictures etc.....

a couple of tips......
1. i suggest making a photoshop folder in your browser to hold specifically
those tutorials or places where they have a lot of tutorials that fits your interests
and you made need to make sub folders ie; one video tutorials or one that
hold the various ways to mask things... etc....
2. also may want to make a photoshop tutorial folder on the hard drive...
for those special tutotorials you find on the net and you want to save...
i generaly save those in mht format .. but the very least save them in
"complete html" that way you save the images that in the tutorial..

3. on videos tutorials... if there any you like to save.... now some sites
will allow your to save the video to your hard drive.... but most don't
and there 2 meathod i use to save...
a. if the site is using flv format.. generally you can download the flv video
either by using a site that does it for you and which case you may need
a converter program to convert the flv to mpg.....
b. there are some program that will download and convert a flv....
c. another meathod i use,, where the format is not in flv is that I
use a screen recorder program...... that captures everyting that displayed
on the screen, comes in real handy ....
on blending..... a lot of times it a matter of which one looks best!!
and clicking one at a time with the mouse to determine which is better
is time consuming.... there a shortcut......
I'll see if i can find it, i lost it (and forgotten it..lol), but there short cut where you can cycle
thru the various blending modes...

Hi

Wow making vids too

Do you use premiere or ?

So u digitize your vinyl , what do you use ?

i have a room full of vinyl i need to digitize

some day , a few years ago i did about 10 lps

then didnt have time anymore

i used a friends turntable to cassette method

then plugged the cassette player into my pc , and

i think i used some Roxio program , the pain was having to stop for each

track to make gaps

I read about this increduble turntable that uses

a laser to read vinyl LPs

between 10 and 14 thousand dollars owch !!!!!

im still intrigued , but i wonder if its for real ?

It hit my browser in a pop up one night

http://www.elpj.com/

is that what you use , its also on wikipedia

i used a program a while ago to capture video from my browser

it worked real well , then i lost it in a HDD reformat , and now

i forget its name , so i got anew one ,Sothink Web Video Downloader Stand-alone

its not very reliable tho , it often just captures that 1st several

seconds of ads before the video starts , the other prog worked real

well , i just recall its name , it also seems some sites can block

you from capturing the video , but this other prog i had never had

a problem .

Thanks thats some good tips for PS organinition

About tutorials heres the link for the halloween one

im working on http://www.rnel.net/tutorial/Photoshop/12819

It seems very simple and well written , only 2 thinhs tho

imo there is no way to select and transform-roate a brush once

you apply it , its directly on the foto , selecting around that

causes a mess

The next thing is i cand blend for poop like he does , blending the

meat layer to the skin . Mine looks like holes in the layer Grrr

He speaks of a chalk brush tho , maybe thats the difference , but i

cant see a chalk brush in CS4 , nor do i ever recall PS having one ?

i thought maybe the spray brush would do a gentle application

of meat layer to skinn , but it didnt

Look how nice and burned the skin looks in the tutorial , damn

i cant see how he did that so well

If i figure this out im gonna do one of myself and send it to some friends

as a halloween joke ....

Thanks again mate

hi,
no I don't use premier, a little expensive for my taste
however my heavy duty program is Ulead's video editor
it is very capable....... another choice thati almost went for
was pro show gold. but at the time (4 years ago..lol) it didn't have
a feature i was looking for but ulead did... but recently been looking
at it and it seems they did some improvment with pro show gold...

lp's... a laser turntable... 10 grand... definitely not in tax level...lol
i use a component system... and i use audacity, it free, and has lots of bell
and whistels....

for screen recorder i use cam studio... it free also.. and it does what I need
although sometime have a little issue with sound....

Now i went to that link you posted about the holloween tutorial but there wasn't
nothing there... i din't see anyting resembling that.. do you have another link for that?
or name or something...?

it hard to suggest what to do since i can't see the tutorial... but what you might try
is to creat a new layer above that and then paint .. you can then if desired select just
the paint part and rotate or whatever you want to do with that...

realy don't want to suggest anyting else untill i see it.... it would be all gues work...

hi,
ok... first... on the tutorial , on that first link it was there
but you mentioned holloween mask and i didn't connect with
stitches.. ookk

now tip...
a. whenever you do these tutorial it always a good idea before you
start to get a overview of in generally there doing things... so that whe
you get in to the details.. it become more clearer..

also keep in mind there always more than way to do the same
thing....

now your going to have a lot of layers...

1. on the stitches... now he using a lot of duplicate layers...
note: i always make duplicate layer of the main image no matter what......
of the man and drawing his base lines (these lines are just guide) .... i would maybe make a duplicate black layer
and draw your lines , you making a basic pattern here, that way you can easily
erase and redraw the lines to your liking if required ....
2. now the stitches themseleves , each stitch is going to be on it own seperate layer!!!
a. weather you use a stitch brush or manually make your stitch lines... it will be on it own layer
b. after your done with the stitict then let say use the lassso tools marquee tool make
a lose selection of the stitich .. and then do your ctrl T (transform) at this point you can rotate it,
resize it, distort it, etc... to get it to alilgn with with initial lines...

and you repeat that for each stich you make starting with a new blank layer......

3... the meat.... just take notice where he is actually
the meat layer... to me it looks like he putting it under
the face and not above

4. on the brush... ok.. no the spray brush the wrong one.
the name chalk brush doesn't mean much to me, however..
taking a closer look at the pattern onthe meat it appears you
want to use a brush that bascially has a lot of lines in it...!!
now you have several llike that in your brush set but you may
need to open a few brush sets to find that one... it there... or find
one that give you the effect you want....
5. now again with the brush.. what he basicaly doing is with the eraser chalk brush
effect (don't forget the opcacity setting) he'll be eraseing the man's sking to
allow the meat part to come thru... now in some places he erase more than
others especialy around the edges to help blend in from light at the edges to
strong in the middle....

works like a charm

Poor fools look like serious burn victims
