hi,
first you can go to edit> and either click undo or "step backward... that will undo it and bring you back to the selection (dancing ants.) ..

now not quite sure what you need for "correct selection" so my reply maybe off....

if you already have a selection and you want to modify it... add or substract.. there a few ways to do it.. depending on the tool and also the version of ps your using.... but in general....

1. if your adding... one way is holding the shift key down and make the selection of the new area, when you you relase where ever there a interesect, the new selection will combine with the old.... and this works if substracting....

2. now another way... is when you have a tools like lasso.. ther at the top you see four buttons add, substract, intersect... they come in real handy modifying a selection ... you may want to experiement with them to get familiar..

well i hope that what you need...

A simple way is just inverse selection after it is selected, then cut back what you don't want, remember to inverse back after you repair your mistake

Hi Igor,
Yeah, accidentally double clicking when using the polygonal lasso tool can really be a pain. That happens to me a lot, if I use that tool, and I don't know of any way to re-open the selection. However, there is a different way to use the tool that you may like better. Just select the regular lasso tool instead, then click and hold the alt (option for Mac) key and it will turn into the polygonal lasso tool. Now, double clicking will not close the selection. However, if you release the alt/opt key, that will close it. I don't use that tool a lot but when I do, that's the method I use. Give it a try and see if you like that method better.
