Text on an image, the opposite to emboss ?

Postby _Chris_ on Mon Feb 01, 2010 6:22 pm

Anyone here know how to do text on an image, where it looks as though it's been punched into the image - it's kinda opposite to emboss, emboss is for the words to be raised, but this effect, is where the text goes into the image. Not sure what the exact name of the effect is, but can anyone point me in the right direction to find out please ?

Any help appreciated.

You may be looking to emboss in the 'down' direction instead of 'up'.

hi,
I think there a lot of different ways of doing it... because of your question i been experimenting even using the emboss a little bit.... anywa here a couple....

http://www.rnel.net/tutorial/Photoshop/10539

http://www.tutorialman.com/tutorials/gr ... engraving/
on this one here they used black but i think it might have been better if the used a
dark grey for the inner shadow....

Thanks all, it's appreciated.

Very similar to :

http://www.tutorialman.com/tutorials/gr ... engraving/

but, the desired effect, is for the inside of the text, to be the same color as the color around the text. What is the definitive name for this effect please ? and any easy-to-follow directions for it anywhere ?

hi,
did you try different text colors and different blend modes...

having a hard time really figuring out what you really specifically want....

at this point sort of guessing unless you have a specific image that shows exactly what you want....

maybe you need to use the type mask tool!! instead of the regular type tool

or how about the glass etching technique???
http://tutorialtown.com/photoshop-tutor ... n-services is that something closer...
