When something simmilar happens to my hardware components I just go to device manager and uninstall the component. In the case of your cd-roms, they are plug n play devices so they should detect themselves after a restart. Try it out and let us know if it works.

Did you do anything, or did anyithing unusual happen before the problem? (ANYthing!?)

It could be software (windows freaking out, going corrupt on you). Or could be hardware (could be a defective cable, controller, or cd-roms, and yes things just break from one moment to the next...everyday)

Could be defective harddisk or memory so the drivers will be loaded corruptly...actually this can be a lot of things :)

But since it's both at once...My guess is either a software(driver) problem or a cable/controller problem.

If problem persists:

Try running a full checkdisk (maybe driver corruption will be fixed if that is the problem). You could also try another cable, or connect one or both to another controller to test if it's a controller problem.

Run memtest (http://www.memtest.org/) and/or your harddisk manufacturers diagnostic test to check if the problem lies there.

Good luck :)

It is not a hardware problem, that i know, because it works in linux... what i did, before the cd-roms disapeard, was installing WaveLab... the software problem, was the first thing i tought of, so i uninstalled all resently installed applications, and anything that might fuck the cd-roms... but for no use at all...

But to staigthn things out...
What i have done after the dissaperence of my cd-roms, is:
Full Virus-scan (no viruses found).
Full Spyware scan (nothing found).
Uninstalled all resently installed programs, and drivers.
Full integrity-scan of C: (no errors).
Tested the memory (no errors).
Reinstalled the drivers.
Uninstalled the devices (windows finds new hardware at startup, and installs the drivers).

Any clue about what might be the problem?

when you said you uninstalled all of the resently installed applications you have removed a one file of the drivers by accident
