Can't find my site on any search engine - help

Postby Jo on Tue Oct 18, 2005 10:04 pm

I've just built my first website, put relevant keywords on numerous pages with descriptions, done the meta tags and yet cannot find it through a number of search engines. Don't know where I'm going wrong. Can anyone come up with any suggestions.

First of all, welcome to DEVPPL.

If you search for:
site:www.yourdomain.com

on Google, MSN or Yahoo. Will that show any results, do you see your site there?

You should not search for yourdomain, you should search for your domain, in my case, I would search for
site:www.devppl.com

How many results is showing up when you do this on your domain?

None Didn't come up with anything as couldn't find a match in google. Just before my search I entered my url on the google system. Didn't know I even had to register my url with a search engine to start with. Wish dreamweaver books would provide follow through info when one's built a site. I think I'll have to take a step back and recheck the website. Many thanks for your help though.

When you submit a website to google it takes time to appear so try again in a few days.

It could take up to a month until a search engine indexes your site if you add it manually, I would suggest that you trade links with some other sites, that will get you indexed much quicker.

Hi again. I've discovered Google has found my site at long last which is great, that was when I'd typed in the domain name without the .co.uk etc. However, after typing in a keyword and trawling through 77 pages which was the last page, I didn't find my site. Perhaps something is wrong with how I've done the keywords, I don't know. How and where do I go from here?
