problem with filters

Postby lifeoverseas on Tue Mar 11, 2008 12:56 pm

Hi,
I´ve been looking through the forum in an attempt to find the answer to this question. I am trying to create an image I have created many times before. Basically its like a worn out rubber stamp, and I normally set the type and put a box round it and then use the spatter filter in CS3 to create the worn effect. However, my filters show up and I can open the gallery by none of the filters I choose have any effect on the image. I think I´m doing everything the same as always but now it´s not working. I am in rgb and 8bit canal mode.

Can someone help me?
Thanks

You might be applying the effect to the wrong layer. Perhaps try merging layers or flattening

Hi tkgd2007,

Thanks for the response. The image actually only has one layer, so I dont think it could be that. I´ve used this filter about 20 times and I don´t understand why it doesnt work now, it´s as if I have changed settings or something without realising!

Any other ideas of what it could be?
Thanks :D

A more precise description of the problem would be good. How large are the image dimensions? How high resolution is it (DPI)? What version of Photoshop are You using?
Any other info You could provide would be good.

Hi again,

Thanks for the reply Etheryte. The image dimensions are 735x219px and the resolution is 96DPI and I´m using Photoshop CS3.

As regards the image, I am trying to create a rubber stamp image. I have entered and rasterised the type placed a box around it with stroke and now want to create the worn effect so I select everything and choose the filter called Spatter, but it doesn´t have any effect. And none of the filters do. However, it´s not that the filters never work, they work on other files I have, it´s just on this particular one.

I don´t know if that will have helped but if you need any more information let me know and I´ll try and get it!
Thanks

What exact version of Photoshop do You use?
On some versions of Photoshop, also including some Beta releases of Photoshop CS3, filters have the tendency not to work well or not work at all at DPIs higher than 72.
It is not sure that this is the case, but it might be.
Could You provide me a link to the file You are trying to filter? It's much easier for both of us that way, it will save a lot of complex questions that You should try to answer.
