PSD image from JPG

Postby kerm on Thu Sep 24, 2009 2:33 pm

Hi, I have a JPG image of my football team logo. I want to make it a PSD file so I can edit the colours and change the background which is a pain as I have to insert to areas where the background is also white. As you can see from the attached image cutting out the shape is difficult. Any help would be appreciated.

hi,
now remember you can, once you open you open your image you can add layers and such.... and it when you save that image as a psd.. it will also save all the layers....

now what i did was basically selected the oboject i wanted and copy and past that to a seperate layer..
note there several ways to so select...
1. after opening the image i then duplicated the image on a seperat layer
a. you can go to layer>duplicate
b. or on the layer pallet, if you have it showing, click and drag the orginal layer to the "create new layer" icon at the bottom of the pallet...

2. now once done... i decided to resample enlarge the image and used bicubic sharpening ... that give me more pixals to work with.....

3. my next step was to select the design and text to put just that on a seperate layer.. ... several ways to do that.. , i choose select>color range and used the eye droper + to to select all the colors i wanted selected... when finished you will see everything selects and the you can do a copy and paste to a seperate layer .....
a. another way is just use the dropper on the white areas to select and then delete just those areas...

4. then create create a new layer by going to layer>new>layer you get a nice blank layer..... which you can then bring in the background you want or fill with the color you want...

at this point a good idea maybe to go ahead and do a save as and save as a psd file...!! that will preserver all the work and layers you have done so far...

as you work with the different layers keep in mind you may need to turn off or on the little eyes to control what layers are showing thru ...

well i hope that enough to get you started...
