Question about Photoshop

Postby Arthy on Wed Jul 11, 2007 5:53 pm

Ok, I recently bought photoshop and I have a few problems. It is very easy for me to draw with my bare hands, you could say I have a talent for that, but I can't draw a lineart to save my life and photoshop just seems so freaking complicated.

The purpose of this thread is to ask other, more experienced users how was it for them at the beginning. How did you learn about photoshop, is there a guide I could use (I saw tons of tutorials that were either stupidly complicated or not what I was looking for) and most importantly ... how can someone draw a lineart without a tablet ... I can't draw a straight (or almost straight) line to save my life ...

Drawing with a mouse is hard. You can get drawing tabletts which essentially let you draw by hand - if you're serious about hand-drawing in photoshop, that should be the way to go.

A tablet is the way to go. For tutorials check out www.melissaclifton.com, she has a few really good ones that will help you out.

Hmm... Well, you draw simple stuff like orbs and basic 3D shapes, but doing a full drawing with the mouse is.. hard.

If you don't have a tablet I'd really reccomend you to draw the bits in hand and scan them. Or get a Wacom.
Of course if you want that "computer-line-inked" look to your drwaings you can always follow the already drawed lines (which is much easier than drawing from scratch), but it still takes loads of time.

As your probally no, lines are the most important aspect of art (drawings, comics, inking) and frankly, doing those with a mouse is just.. Un-"hand"y :)

(I personally don't draw with my mouse (I don't own a Wacom.. yet), but I do use it for painting/coloring my scanned drawings and even so.. That is a pain in the ass as well)

Thx for answering my stupid question :P ... I might get a tablet, but I have a scanner and I'll probably use that one first
