rectangular marquee tool

Postby mmost on Tue Jul 03, 2007 12:34 am

just wanted to know how you change the rectangular marquee tool to have auto curved edges when you select an object.

i have it set with also an outer glow when i cut any object.

usually the retangular marquee tool is squared off when selecting an object but ive done something to make it select all objects with rounded edges.. as if it was a mask or something..

can someone please help me? i would really be interested to know how to do this to save me time in the future.

the main reason is because i would like to turn it off and on as i wish...

p.s - i am not using a mask!

many thanks in advance.

okay do it either way.

use the marquee tool and make ur rectangle, and then once its made, go to select>modify>smooth and then type in however much pixel u want on the edges to be rounded, be wared if u insert too much, it'll become a circle...

or u could use the custom shape tool, and holde the icon util the menu pops out and select the the second one, which is rounded edges, and u can make but first it made a pen path, so what you do is go to the path palette which is hidden behind the layer palette and then go the little arrow on the top-right corner and click it, and then go the menu to make selctionm, and then u have a rounded rectangle selection.

do either way is fine, i do it the second way most of the time...

If i am looking for just a plain-jane rounded-corner selection, then i just use the standard rectangle marquee + smooth method. If i want rounded edges with a feathered edge, i just use the rectangle marquee with the feather set to whatever level i want my fuzziness.
