replacing color challenge

Postby eliA on Sat Mar 05, 2011 8:58 am

Hi helpers,
Here is the challenge (i'm really frustrated at this point):
I'm tring to replace blue color to orange color in an abstract photo, but so far with no luck.
I tried already the "Color Replacement Tool" and "Replace color..." and some more layers technics but i didn't get the exact result that i want.
I want to change ALL the blue pixels to orange color.
Any Ideas?

hi,
now i don't have a answer... still experimenting with that image but i thought i let you know there are people trying...... i just wish my skills were better...

i just want to let you what i have run into...
1. now it does apear it is blusish cast in the image, not just the obvious blue.... however....
2. on closer inspection... it not so much bluish but more of a cyan color.... that the wha it appears to me... now cyan is made up of green and blue ... that really make it for me difficult to work with.... idetermined this primarily from the hue and saturation , using different setting just to see which setting had the most effect on what appear to be blue.... and that how i came up that it was cyan..

now one route i am working with...

1. bring up the hue and saturation tool
2. set it for cyan
3. then slide that sat slider to the far left.... that desaturate just the cyan...
3. then i used the color replace tool (high tolerance and in color mode) and replace the grey with orange...!!
i should have used a mask to keep from over painting into green areas... grrr.. smiling....

now that meathod i don't know if that good enough .... but i am going to keep up experimenting i don't know if i come up a really good technique but if i do i 'll let you know..

The one way I used was to find the color I was looking for in the color picker. Then set that as foreground color. Create a new layer over the background layer. Fill the entire layer with the orange color. Set that layer to color in the blending mode. This will change the entire picture to orange. Then on the orange layer hold down alt or option on mac and click the layer mask button. That will make the mask black which will hide that entire layer. Then go in with a soft brush and just paint white on the mask in the areas that have the blue to bring back the orange from the color layer. It may take about 15 minutes to get all the details but Its a pretty quick way to just attack the problem.

Color replacement is tough due to the gradients. You may want to try making specific adjustments to the blue slider in the colors adjustments. Perhaps you could target blue only as a whole....not sure. Heres what I got with the adjustment I made.

Didn't you make any layers? A very easy way is to adjust the hue/saturation on a specific layer, in this case the layer(s) with the blue part(s) on it/them.

No, i didn't create this image so that's why i got no layers. A friend of mine bought this image and asked me if i can replace the blue color to orange.
Finally i used daemonzul technique and i got what i wanted, so everything is ok now.
