HD Graphic Cards

O.k... I'm not so good when it comes to hardware, so forgive me is the following is to much of a dumb question:

What advantages do I have if using and HD video graphic card? What I mainly need to know is if the ONLY way of importing HD video is using a firwire from an HD Graphic Card, but in general I would love to know every single advantage.

Help upgrading old graphic card

Hi there,

I Would like to upgrade my graphic card. Motherboar is a Asus A7V333 with a AGP 4x. The graphic card is AGP Nvidia Geforce TI 4200 125mb I know it is old.... I have a lot of problems with this graphic card, computer shuts down sudenly and so on....as it is an old card I am wondering what would be the best replacement for this graphic card I would prefer ATI graphic cards that I think Has a bettar picture quality and preferable with no fan as it can always be loud. Any views on that would be much apreciated...Is t here any faster or bettar card that this motherboard would support?

It could be something else. What OS do you use? Nvidia has unresolved issue with the 8000 series on UT when using XP. If you use Vista, then that wouldn't be it. UT3 also requires a dual-core processors with at least 1 meg cache per core. At least 1 gig of memory is needed, but I suggest at least 2. BTW, do you play UT2k4? Watching TV and DVD

Hi there,

I currently use an old IBM ThinkPad T20 to watch TV (with a USB plu-in box) and films with PowerDVD5.) I would like to upgrade to a 22" monitor for viewing but the TP20 will not support such high monitor resolution.

I have acquired an old Dell (about 6 year old, don't know the model) and would like use it to watch TV and DVD with a 22" monitor. The Dell only has built-in graphics and a monitor out socket only.

I installed XP and the TV software and although it works on my 17" monitor, the image is not a good as my current 'viewing' on an old IBM ThinkPad. As for the PowerDVD, I get a TV out message and nothing works.

My idea is to buy an inexpensive graphics card that will support the higher resolution, but have been told this is not a good idea as the rest of the computer will not be up to the graphics card and nothing will improve.

Is this actually the case? Or more specifically, how can I get an old computer to produce good images on a modern 22...

True however I seem to recall the 4870 being very close to the GTX280 but like half the price. If your going for an economical purchase, personally I'd take 4870 because performance and price taken into consideration it's the best. However if you just want performance the 4870 X2 will be perfect, probably not worth touching the GTX280 which is strange from me as I am an Nvidia fanboy. :p

You could try overclocking, but that can get you only few % increase in performance, while risking to completely burn your card. So the answer is no. You can only update drivers.

Problems with Asus HD 4850

Recently I'd bought new graphic card - Gigabyte Radeon 4850, but there were some problems with it - card crashed during gameplay, some strange artifacts appears on screen.

I thought problem is with the card, so I've changed it for Asus 4850 model, but the problem remained.

Again, games crashes and I don't know why. There are newsest drivers installed.

GPU heat is about 60-70*C.

X1800XT for that kinda price.

Asuming it has a PCI-E slot

The 256MB version is Â£150 and the 512MB version is Â£230 from Overclockers .co.uk so if the prices at the fair are good then you may be able to get the X1800XT 512MB version which is rather damn good.

Yeah I am not supprised that onboard 6300 is struggling there not really ment for games.

Problem with TV-out

The TV-out was working perfectly fine untill today. It shows the movies on my monitor and the desktop on the TV. :S

I tried switching between TV and Monitor as primary but it dosnt help. It either shows the movie on the monitor and desktop on TV or desktop on both.
