sharpen with bigger images

Postby count_zero on Tue Sep 19, 2006 1:06 am

I take high-res photos with my digital camera - 2112 x 2816,

If I use the sharpen/sharpen filter on these pictures the effect is very small.

But, if I first reduce the size to 422 x 563 and THEN select sharpen/sharpen the effect is quite strong and looks really great.

So, my question is: how do I achieve that level of effect with larger pictures?

Well, that kind of works...

I tried it on an image just now. When the image was small and I sharpened it looked great. When I did three sharpens at large size the effect was very small, four sharpens and it produced a 'grain' effect.

I suppose for on computer and the internet there is nothing wrong with a small size, so the picture is displayed at 100%. I haven't started printing out digital pictures yet so I don't know if that's going to be a problem.

to Sharpen a high-res imag in Ps I usualy do this:
1. Duplicate the layer you whant to sharpen then go to Filter/Other/High pass. give the new layer some opacity and play arround with the normal / multiplay options (not necesarely this two. trie to see wich one fits best with your image)

2. go to Channels and aplie to each chanel the sharpen filtre. Go back to seeing the image normaly and it should be ok

3. Try to use the sharpen tool. But this I wouldn`t recomand on large areas

Hope this helps
