simple question

This is probably the most newbie thing ever, but how do I resize an image in a layer by dragging it with the mouse? Can you do this? I wanna fit some things together visually and I don't wanna screw around with numbers.

you go to the layer where the object is (if it's on a ceperate layer) and hold CTRL+T and then you hold SHIFT+ALT while you resize to make it equal on all sides.

is there a way to make it resize in its orignial shape, instead of making the sides go diagonal?
