Re: Text on an image, the opposite to emboss ?

Thanks all, but no it's none of those. I've googled on etching, emboss and inner shadow, but none of them.

It's kinda like the way that passports used to get stamped, with the text indented into the paper - so instead of the text being raised, it was the opposite, going into the paper.

Any help much appreciated.

your best bet is to show us a sample of what your saying emboss does what your implying here, unless your referring to just punching out text on a piece if paper to make it transparent

I don't have any samples, but what you're saying, sounds very similar - just punching out text on a piece of paper to make the text transparent.

select your type tool right click it, you will see a drop down menu
select one of the mask tools type what you want, then you will see the outline of text, place it where you want it then it delete play around with it
you can also ad emboss and a ray of different effects

Thanks idad, but not quite sure what you mean by "then it delete play around with it" ?

Fully realise how vague the question in this thread seems, but I can't to find the inage I saw a few months ago, that showed the effect :(

BUT, on googling for a few more hours, I've come across something that's very close. It's similar to the one on the link below, BUT, the color of the text would be exactly the same as the image surrounding the text.

The helps much appreciated.
