Ultra X-Connect Modular power supply

Postby ReFredzRate on Mon Aug 23, 2004 7:46 am

As of today, there will not be any unused power supply cables inside your computer anymore. Ultra X-Connect created a new power supply, with unpluggable cables. When you remove a harddisk or cd-rom drive from your computer, you can easily remove the cable the drive was fed by as well. This will increase airflow through your case, keeping your hardware cooler. Besides that, the power supply puts out a stunning amount of 500W, giving enough power to run a full server with all options attached.

This Power Suppy Unit (PSU) is actually really cool, especially if you want you computer to be unique.

The cords can glow in the night making it a watchable site when dark.

As it seems from the site of this product (http://www.ultraproducts.com/item.php?sku=U10-9510%20MS) it is very easy to use and durable. The Supply Unit is basically for people who wants to have something unique. But I personally think that I could spend 100 $ at something better. What do you think?

I really like those modular PSU's. I've seen some from other manufacturers as well, but this one somehow really stands out from the others. It's got a sweet chrome fan grille (or should I say finger guard?) on it.
Besides, the glowing cables are pretty cool as well. Unfortunately they're not glow in the dark cables, you need a UV cathode (or LEDs or something...) for it to glow.
The modular idea is really sweet. I've seen someone do it on Bit-Tech for the first time. After that the idea went into the commercial market, didn't even take a month... However, I am still thinking about making my own modular power supply. I mean, modifying my own (stock) 550W Qtec into a modular 550W Qtec :) Should save me some room inside my case, improved airflow, and it looks sweet! :D
