Vector Text problem in CS4, HALP!

Postby zipzip on Fri Oct 30, 2009 3:06 am

This is driving me nuts. :x

When I zoom in on type in Photoshop CS4 it's clearly pixelated. I figured photoshop just previews the text as rasterized, but when I drag the text layer into an illustrator doc it's still pixelated. By the way if I right click on the text layer in Photoshop it gives me the option to rasterize text, so I know it's a vector.

Also, when I save a photoshop doc as a pdfx1a (print ready pdf) and zoom in the text is clearly pixelated.

I'm not a rookie and I've asked everyone I know what the problem is and half of them don't even realize CS4 has vector type.

What am I missing here? Any help would be appreciated...

It's to do with how the zoom in Photoshop work, if I recall correctly.
The text is only appearing pixellated when you zoom in because Photoshop is built for raster, if you were to actually increase the size of the text it would not be pixellated.
If you go to Photoshop, Edit>Image Size, and instead of PIXELS, you change the percentage to let's say...800, then the results would be a larger image of a vector that is NOT pixelated.

thanks for the advice, but that's not it.

even previewing in Illustrator the text layer I brought in it is still showing up pixelated.

also, zooming in on a pdf in acrobat it's also still pixelated.

hi,
now i am just a novice... but my self always had a problem with my cs1 with text... to the point a lot of time i'll make my text there then bring into photoshop... grrr... !! ...

with photoshop , if there other layers involved, didn't matter if adjusted my anti alias or change the sizes... still looked terrible , ie fuzzy , pixalated...etc..

but one thing i have notice.. is that if i create my text in it own file in photoshop.. the text will be a lot sharper ( but not perfect) , then I click and drag that text layer to my other image... things are a lot better.....

now as far as ilustrator, i don't have it to test with, ... see if the above works out.. if it doesn't well if you can get it looking good in photoshop then try saving it as a eps file .....

i am probably out to lunch... that what has worked for me.......

I maybe talking out of my ass, and may not understand even what I'm talking about. But Photoshop does not really "image" vectors. It has paths which are vectors. But the image which is contained within the pathis a raster unless it was brought in through illustrator to photoshop as a smart object. Like I said, I maybe mistaken but what you should try doing is make a path of whatever it is you want in photoshop, then go to File>Export>Export Paths to Illustrator. You can then fill your path and turn it into vector. Photoshop text as I understand it, is NOT TRUE vector.
