Video Editing

Postby PubliScript on Thu Mar 31, 2011 1:44 pm

Hi all,

I am brand spanking new here but have been a Photoshop user ever since v1. Over the years, I have seen Photoshop growing and getting better with every new upgrades, up to the point where it does way more than I need it too... Or so I thought...

Video is one of those thing. I end up having to do a lot of that lately, mainly to create and add intro sequence (animated logo + jingle) and text overlays throughout. In any case, up to this point, this was all done for the WEB.

But today, I get a request for a "Broadcast Quality" video and was wondering what if any do I have to be careful about.

For instance, what should the resolution of my video file be at?
What export settings should I use?
What, as a rule of thumb, is the size vs time ration (ex. xGb/hr)

Photoshop offers quite a palette of export options but very little in way explanation.

Can anybody help me with this, or point me to a source of reliable info.

TIA
Michel

hi,
although photoshop is good for many things i don't think video is it strong point...
i can see where if certain things are nvolved where you need to modiefy many frames and video editor may not beable to price the modification you require to do that

however for most other things a video editor is much better....

first let me say a good place for questions about video in general is
videohelp.com.... they may not address anything specific with photoshop but everything else they can...

now broadcast quality doesn't really mean anything to me.... it vaque without some specifics...... so it hard to say...

now as far a xgb/hr .... generally you don't think in that term to me that more applicable about broadband....

when it come to video your thinking of FPS (frames per secount) generally 24 fps was the standards that what your nomral tv movie at 3:4 aspect ratio run at....
note higher fps give you smoother movement when played..... however over the net it requires greater band width to see the smoothness...

but now adays since computer have become faster you generally like something around 29.8 or 30 FPS ....

aspect ratio... if your look at at full screen then looking at 3:4 or 16:9 (high definition) which is best depends

resolution... your standard ratio 4:3 max resolution will be appx 570x 480 ... although if you go for the HD wide screen then your looking at at least 16:9 and high resolution.......

as far as what fromat... well again what the end use... on a dvd or streaming video. generally save all of my video files in avi format... and when burning to dvd that will converted to a modifyed mpg format...
