Website Profit

Postby MarianoGrafiks on Tue Mar 20, 2007 2:26 am

Can someone tell me if you can realistically make money off of banner ads?
I've only designed websites for business advertisement so far. But I want to build a high-traffic site to try the banner-ads out.

Has anyone had any luck making at least a part-time paycheck off of website advertising? I know money's a sensitive subject...but this is an anonymous forum.

I'm also curious...with a high-traffic forum like this one....why no banner ads

I want he quality of the site to be in focus, I belive that the users are pretty tired of all other ads on the net. We use text links and that covers the hosting and domain name, and that's enough for now.

????? :( What kind of answer is that webmaster? All you talk about is you and your forum? My question wasn't about what users are tired of!

Nice to know I can get a webmaster to see my thread and not even give me helpful information. My question was....

Can you profit off of web-banner ads with a high-traffic site? Of course you can profit, but can you make a good profit as opposed to a little profit? Or is it chump change and I should start on my next idea?

And please, if your a moderator or webmaster.....try actually HELPING people get an answer. That is the purpose of this forum, is it not?

it's hard

I have never been able to make money with banner ads. Most advertisers know that banner ads do not seem to deliver the traffic they want, they're better off blowing a lot of money on pay-per-click or paying for a one-way anchor text link on a relevant blog rather than using banner ads, so it's hard to convince an advertiser to run a banner ad on your site.

I quoted a part of your message and answered that, I think I gave you a good answer to the question:

I think that you will find that the people that are really making money are either doing contextual ads link adSense, annoying ads that move and blinks, etc or they are promoting products with affiliate programs.

I am working on the affiliate part of this, selling other peoples products. I have learned that it is a lot harder than just dropping a link on your website. You have to actually check out the products or know something your user doesn't and then inform them / recommend the product. I have built a list of about 500 people on one of my sites and am starting to test the waters with this concept. I think it works better with opt-in lists than just a weblink, although you may user a link / banner, etc to remind them of what you said in the email.

I agree, I think you will do better with an affiliate program. Unless you have tons of traffic it would be hard to make much off of offering banner ads on your site. How much traffic do you plan on having?

speaking of search engines, here is an idea: why not download a toolbar (clubfinity, conduit etc) and apply a search engine on it, then as people click on your toolbar's search engine, you accumulate $
