Whats the deal with spacing and indents when writing html?

Whats the deal with spacing and indents when writing html?

Postby Student on Wed Dec 22, 2010 7:43 pm

I'm a newbie, just bought my first html and css book and am working through it. The book says that parent and child elements should be lined up in indenting when writing the code. For example: (HAVING JUST PREVIEWED THIS POST I NOTE THAT IT WONT SPACE THE CODE AS I HAVE TYPED IT)

<html>
<head>
<title> example1</title>
</head>
<body> and so on...

I'm learning on my MacBook using text editor. My question is how exactly do you indent/space the code? In the example above I just used the space bar (the tab button is too much I thought). However when I use the spacebar in text editor sometimes the line won't move, the previous line will just gain spaces. I hope I'm being clear.

Any advice on conventional wisdom would be much appreciated. How do you space html coding?
