why won't text show up?

wow laner...turns out you just make yourself look like a prick. i didn't solve it with any help from anyone else. my system was acting glitchy and I just did a restart on my machine...and guess what...no more glitch. sorry to annoy you and have a totally irrelivant and waste of space thread.

So I ran into this problem as well and figured I'd join just to shed some light on this.

I figured out why the txt doesn't show up...I just don't know how to fix the problem.

It seems that for whatever reason..."regular font sizes" don't apply on the image your having a problem with.

I decided to open a separate image and put text on it (which worked fine) and then drag and drop the text to the image that I was having a problem with.

Turns out the text showed up just fine, but what I realized was in the image I dragged the text from, the font size said "15 point"...however once dragged into the old picture (with the problem) the font size registered as "1008 point".

Now since you can't manually make a font bigger than like 2500 point or something, I just made the text the size I wanted it in the unaffected picture and then dragged it to the affected picture (for reference, I wanted the text to be roughly 25 point, and once dragged to the affected picture it registered as around 4300 point.

So at least if thats what is happening to you there is a way (albeit pain in the butt) around it...although I'd like to know what could be done to fix this.

(And I already did the preferences thing although I doubt that was it anyway because it shouldn't only happen with one particular image)

I just had this problem and I think I've found a solution.

The problem, for me, was caused by the fact that my psd file had a resolution of 1 pixel / inch. I'm not very photoshop savvy but if you set the resolution to normal for the document or simply make a new document with the correct resolution and drag the old image in, that should solve your problem.

Thanks hellfire! I am SO glad that a Google search led me to this forum and your answer. I only use Photoshop for some basic activities but had become competent at those - and suddenly no text showing up as I typed. Nothing worked and it only happened when creating a new document of a text box and not have text on top of a photo. For some reason new psd files were opening in a 1 pixel size. Thanks to everyone who submits helpful ideas.

joined this site just so I could thank you hellfire. I have had this photoshop problem for 6 months now and it has driven me nuts. I used to type the words I wanted into word and then screenshot and use as an image overlay.

Now only i read your post, i can understand your doubt ,you can go to (image>mode>RGB color)and then fix 8 bits/channal.plz try it.
