Windows XP Repair problem.

Windows XP Repair problem.

Postby victiria on Fri Sep 23, 2011 3:08 am

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with Windows XP Pro. Last week, I found a keylogger on my PC, and I tried to remove it, but it asked the password to delete it. So I failed and I then reset my PC. During the boot up I get the message to the effect, Windows file is missing or corrupt, insert original setup disk and run R for repair. It lists a directory path Windows\System32\Config\System... no file name shown.

So inserted the Dell reinstallion disk, after it loaded all the temporary files and drivers, it gave me the option to R for repair. Goes to the next screen where it asks me "Which Windows installation would you like to log onto" Option 1 is C:\Windows, I enter 1 and hit enter and.....nothing. It just sits there, the hard drive and CD ROM are not spinning at all.

I've tried it multiple times, even tried another Windows XP CD and that gave me the same results.

Not a lot to tell but does anyone have an idea what has happened that it won't let me repair the installation?
