Do you want it to open in a new window?

If not, as much as I hate iframes that would be one way, that way you can have a page with no media player then when you click on the link it opens a page with the media player set to autorun.

Not really sure just what you want help with.

Hi there, thank you both for replying swiftly.

So this is what woud i would like to happen.

On a page will be links, that once you click on one, it then opens up windows media player and plays automaticly, and they begin to watch the clip. Once finished watchin the clip they can shut the media window and choose another clip tom watch from the links available.

These video clips will be stored on my server, and if possible i would like them to be streamed.

Hope that helps you guys to understand what i mean.

cheers

Aup

There is a few ways to embed a media player.

This is a valid way to do it and it also works in all browsers (There is a better way to do it using slightly less code to do the same job but I carnt remember just how for now). If you dont want it to play auto just remove the param the same with the loop and playcount.

<!--[if !IE]> <-->
<object id='mediaPlayer' data="video/yourvideo.wmv" standby='Loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components...' type='type="video/x-ms-wmv"'>
<param name='fileName' value="http://www.yourdomain.com/video/yourvideo.wmv" />
<param name='animationatStart' value='true' />
<param name='transparentatStart' value='true' />
<param name='autoStart' value="true" />
<param name='showControls' value="true" />
<param name="loop" value="true" />
<param name="PlayCount" value="*" />
</object>
<!--> <![endif]-->
<!--[if IE]>
<object id='mediaPlayer' data="video/yourvideo.wmv" classid='clsid:22D6F312-B0F6-11D0-94AB-0080C74C7E95' codebase='http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=5,1,52,701' standby='Loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components...' type='application/x-oleobject'>
<param name='fileName' value="http://www.yourdomain.com/video/yourvideo.wmv" />
<param name='animationatStart' value='true' />
<param name='transparentatStart' value='true' />
<param name='autoStart' value="true" />
<param name='showControls' value="true" />
<param name="loop" value="true" />
<param name="PlayCount" value="*" />
</object>
<![endif]-->

You can just use the embed tag but this dont work for most browsers.

You can also use this code, but as the embed tag is now depreciated the coding is invalid according to W3C Standards.

<object id="MediaPlayer" width=320 height=286 classid="CLSID:22D6f312-B0F6-11D0-94AB-0080C74C7E95" standby="Loading Windows Media Player components..." type="application/x-oleobject" codebase="http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=6,4,7,1112">

<param name="filename" value="http://yourdomain/yourmovie.wmv">
<param name="Showcontrols" value="True">
<param name="autoStart" value="True">

<embed type="application/x-mplayer2" src="http://yourdomain/yourmovie.wmv" name="MediaPlayer" width=320 height=240></embed>

</object>

Hi johneva,

Thanks for the code very much appreciated, could i bother you with one more question.

Will the buffer automacitly appear if the video file is very large, or is there a seperate code to have your video clips streamed

Cheers

In order for you to stream videos you need a specialized streaming server.

Thogh you can use something called progresive downloding or Flash can also do a progressive download which works much the same as streaming.

I am not sure how to go about doing it though I have only ever used samll video files not worth worrying about streaming or progressive downloading.

Here is a link that explains about it anyways.
