Rigging a turret to aim at a point helper

Okay, so I'm just diving into rigging things up for easier animation and am trying to rig up a turret to aim at something I tell it to (whether it be by moving a point helper around and it always be pointing at that or some other method) but I'm getting stuck at what seems to be the first step: Rigging up the way the turret aims.

The turret rotates on two different axis which are located at different joints. For YX/LeftRight Rotation there's a swivel to which the rest of the turret is mounted. The Z/UpDown rotation is centered on an arm which extends outwards from the main swivel. The past day or two I've been trying to come up with a way to rig this to automatically rotate the swivel to point directly at the target on the XY axis and have the gun itself rotate around it's pivot point for the Z.

I'm not yet allowed to post a link to a picture of the model here or I would.

Does anyone have any tips as to a good way to rig this?
